  1. I have a particular problem. I need to be able to attach my license plate to a Thule Helium 971XT hitch mount bike rack. Those racks obstruct the license plate, and I got a ticket for that. Thule does not make a license plate holder for their racks. There is no way I can unmount and reinstall the rack each and every single time I need it, as I use it often. So, my option would be to move my plate from the bumper of my car to the bike rack. If you go look at this particular rack, there is a pole that goes from the hitch to the actual bike rack. I would have to put the plate holder at the bottom, where it would show in between bike wheels. Any such product that you know of ? I have searched Amazon, automotive stores, etc. and except for european models (their plates are different), I can’t find any. Any help is welcome! thanks.

    • Hi Suzzane, thanks for your question. You’re definitely not alone. Everyone who has a hitch carrier of any kind has the same problem. Most states have laws that officers can enforce if they want to that will end up in a citation. That said, I haven’t seen any perfect solutions, but the one I like the best given your situation is this. Order a replacement plate (around $10) from your motor vehicles department as if the rear plate were lost. Buy a small clip-on or magnetic mount LED light. (Possible LED light – http://www.amazon.com/E-PRANCE-Clip-On-Silicon-Bicycle-Flashing/dp/B00GSM5W8E/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1406063891&sr=8-3&keywords=clip-on+led+light) Jury-rig the plate on the back of your bike rack with wires or some other something else. Attach the LED to the top or side of the plate, wherever it doesn’t block the number and there you go. When you take off your bike rack, the plate goes with it and vice versa. You won’t need the LED light in the daytime, but you will need it at night. I know it sounds out there, but it makes sense to me. Hope that helps! -Mark
